Which direction does the Army belt point?

Quick Answer

The excess belt passes through the buckle and the end points to the wearer's left.

Per AR 670-1, all belts must be worn so that:

  • The excess belt passes through the buckle
  • The belt doubles back on itself
  • The end of the belt points to the wearer's left
  • The belt does not extend beyond the tip of the buckle by more than 2 inches

This applies to both the OCP rigger belt (coyote tan) and the service uniform belt (black with brass buckle).
