AR 670-1: 10-1. Authorization for wear
The physical fitness uniforms are authorized for year-round wear by all personnel, when prescribed by the commander. See DA Pam 670–1 for uniforms currently classified as physical fitness uniforms, and for authorized variations of the uniform.
AR 670-1: 10-2. Composition
The physical fitness uniform consists of a jacket, pants, trunks, T-shirt, undergarments, footwear, and socks. See DA Pam 670-1 for authorized accessories.
AR 670-1: 10-3. Occasions for wear
The PT uniform is authorized on and off duty, on and off the installation, unless restricted by the commander. It may not be worn for commercial travel, in off-post establishments (except for essentials like gas), or at social/official functions such as funerals, weddings, or ceremonies.
DA PAM 670-1: 10-1. Classification
The physical fitness uniform authorized for wear is classified as the Army physical fitness uniform (APFU).
DA PAM 670-1: 10-2. Composition
The APFU consists of a black and gold running jacket with gold Army logo, black running pants with gold Army logo, black running trunks with "Army" in gold, black short-sleeved and long-sleeved t-shirts with "Army" in gold, footwear, and socks.
DA PAM 670-1: 10-3. Accessories
Authorized APFU accessories are the fleece cap in black or coyote brown and gloves.
DA PAM 670-1: 10-4. Materials
The APFU running jacket and pants are 100-percent nylon. The trunks are 100-percent polyester. Clothing bag shirts are 100-percent polyester; optional purchase shirts are 86-percent nylon and 14-percent spandex.
DA PAM 670-1: 10-5. Insignia
The only insignia authorized for wear on the APFU is the physical fitness badge. When the physical fitness badge is worn, it is sewn on the wearer's upper left front side of the APFU t-shirt above the word "Army." On the APFU running jacket, the insignia is sewn centered 1/2 inch above the Army logo (see AR 600–8–22 for criteria for wearing the physical fitness badge).
DA PAM 670-1: 10-6. General guidelines
APFU wear guidelines: fleece cap covers ears but not eyebrows, commercial running shoes with white or black socks are authorized, spandex shorts may be worn under APFU shorts. T-shirt is tucked into trunks.
